Artist Statement
HEAR, HERE is an ongoing site-specific sound art project by artist-curators Daniele Constance and Dan Koop, exploring stories of place through story and sound.
On October 11 2020, at the concluding event for the Gold Coast HEAR, HERE season as part of GAIA, Danni took part in an on-water performance with indigenous artist Rick Roser.
About the work
In a tin canoe built by Rick, using shovels for paddles, the conversation was broadcast from the calm waters of the Evandale lake at Home of the Arts, Gold Coast.
Listeners heard this live broadcast from underneath the shade of a beautiful melaleuca grove on the shore.
Topics discussed by Rick and Danni included the character and ecology of Gold Coast waterways; the life of seaweed – and other aquatic organisms – and thoughts about full-body, non-human listening.
